Case Study: Custom Italtronic Solutions for Strato Pi Max

In this case study, we will examine how Italtronic collaborated with Sfera Labs, a company specializing in advanced electronic solutions, to provide a custom solution for the industrial controller Strato Pi Max, based on the Raspberry Pi CM4 module and the Zymbit SCM security module.

Challenge

Sfera Labs required a plastic enclosure that not only protected the internal electronics but was also easily installable on DIN rails, meeting the standards of home and industrial installations.

The specific requirements included:

• Use of UL-V0 certified plastic material (flame retardant), which is used in all our enclosure series;
• Ability to have a single enclosure already prepared to host different types of boards;
• Graphically customizable to easily recognize the manufacturer of the electronic device;
• Easy access for maintenance, updates, and board mounting;
• Compatibility with the design of the Strato Pi Max module and all expansion boards;
• Professional aesthetics that reflect the quality of the product.

Solution

Italtronic responded to these needs by adapting a plastic enclosure from our standard Modulbox XTS series, which perfectly met the requirements of Sfera Labs. Here's how we addressed the various challenges:

1. Custom Design: The enclosure was machined with CNC processing specifically to house the Strato Pi Max module and all expansion boards, ensuring perfect integration and secure mounting while allowing for additional boards.
2. DIN Rail Mounting: We identified the optimal size for the client's application from a range that spans from 1M to 15M, each with more than a dozen available shapes, exclusively for the Modulbox XTS series.
3. Accessibility: The enclosure design includes easily removable access points to allow maintenance and device updates without compromising the safety and integrity of the enclosure.
4. Aesthetics and Branding: The enclosure was designed with a modern and professional aesthetic, including the graphic customizations requested by Sfera Labs to reflect their brand and facilitate installation by the end user.
